Windows Firewall / Defender Problems

Overview:

Step by Step Guide for solving PostgreSQL problems related to:







Test Firewall and Defender First:

 

Note: Double Check that all Software Security programs are completely removed from your PC before proceeding.

 

  1. Turn off Windows Firewall - If PostgreSQL is now working you know it's a Windows Firewall issue.
  2. Turn off Windows Defender - If PostgreSQL is now working you know it's a Windows Defender issue.

 

 

 



Windows Firewall Solution: 

 

Add Port 5432 to your Windows Firewall exceptions list along with

The following files in C:\Program Files\Holdem Manager2:

 

 

These files in C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\version#\bin:

  • Pg_ctl.exe
  • Postgres.exe

As well as your exe files for your poker client.


Windows Firewall Step by Step Guide to Adding Exceptions For Windows Vista:

1.  Navigate to Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall. Windows Firewall may be in System & Security, depending on your Control Panel view used. The Windows Firewall dialog will pop up.

2.  Click on Allow a program through Windows Firewall. The Windows Firewall Settings dialog will pop up.

3.  In the Exceptions tab, click on Add port. An Add a Port dialog will pop up.

4.  Enter PostgreSQL as the Name and 5432 as the Port number in their respective fields as shown in the screenshot below. Click OK. Now click Add Program, and the Add a Program dialog will pop up.

5.  Click on Browse and add:

The following files in C:\Program Files\Holdem Manager2:

 

These files in C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.4.7-1\bin:

  • Pg_ctl.exe
  • Postgres.exe and psql.exe
     

As well as your exe files for your poker client.

 

6.  Click OK when adding each file. This file will now be added to the window of programs.

  For .dll files (necessary for speed poker variations), you will need to type the first letters of the dll name in the file name box, then choose the files from the list.

Windows Firewall Step by Step Guide to Adding Exceptions For Windows 7/8/8.1:

1.  In 7, Click the Start button and advance to the Control Panel;
In 8, hover over the bottom left corner and right-click the Start Screen link. Click the Control Panel link in the popup menu;
In 8.1 and 10, right-click the Start Screen link in the bottom left corner. Click the Control Panel link in the popup menu;

Control Panel > Windows Firewall. Windows Firewall may be in System & Security, depending on your Control Panel view used. The Windows Firewall dialog will pop up.

2.  Click on Allow a program through Windows Firewall. The Windows Allowed Apps dialog will pop up.

If the Allow Another Program is grayed out, then click Change Settings to allow the change.

3.  Click Allow Another Program, and the Add a Program dialog will pop up.

4. Click on Browse and add:4.

  • HudFuncsApp.exe
  • All Easyhook files
  • blitz.dll
  • All ftp.dll files
  • partyinject.dll
  • ip.dll

  • speed.dll
  • All stars dll files
  •  textboxhook.dll

 

These files in C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\version #\bin:

  • Pg_ctl.exe
  • Postgres.exe

 7.  When completed, click Apply and OK and move onto the next step

8. To add the port, Click Advanced Settings

9. Click Inbound Rule, and then New Rule.

10.  Click the Port Radio Button. Click Next.

11. Click the Specific Local Ports radio button. Type 5432 (Postgresql port) in the box and click next.

12. Make sure the Allow Connection radio button is chosen.

Choose the desired network profiles on the next screen. On the following screen, name the rule. Once back at Step 9, choose Outbound Rule and repeat. Please note that in step 12, Block Connection is chosen by default. Please change it to Allow.

 


Windows Defender Step by Step Guide to Adding Exceptions:

1.  Go to Start > Control Panel > Windows Defender. The Windows Defender dialog will pop up.

2.  Near the top menu select Tools and Settings and then Options. You should now see the following screen.

3.  Click on the Add button.

  • Navigate to the C:\Program Files and select the Holdem Manager 2 folder.
  • Repeat these steps and add the following folder: C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL
  • Click Save.

 



To access Windows Defender in Windows 8/8.1/10, Search for Windows Defender.

On the screen, Click Settings. You can then add the files and locations and processes. Postgres files should be added in processes individually. You should add the defender folder to the files and locations as well.
